Disney/Sunoco? Mamakat 6 hours ago
I've seen Mickey Mouse signs on here, but has anyone seen this sign? Haven't had much luck researching, legit or fake? https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/175966655_a-disney-and-sunoco-oil-enamel-sign

Re: Restoring Ad Glass Help Paul Bell Yesterday at 10:50 PM
It's more likely rust staining.

I've tried various rust removers like CLR before on these, but it didnt seem to help. This last year or two I've been using "Concrete & Metal Prep" from Home Depot to partially derust painted signs, especially white areas. I havent tried it on ad glass, i could see it working but dont know. You could try a spot, let it sit for 5 minutes, and wash it off, see what you get. The metal prep is essentially the same stuff I've been using for years on bare metal before painting in the auto paint business, it removes rust and leaves a phosphate coating on bare metal, on glass I think it would just remove rust, I would think.

Also a chance that evapo-rust could work, but again havent tried that one either.

Maybe someone in here has already tried these before on ad glasses?

I have ruined these before by soaking them for a long time (hours) in solution, whatever you do I wouldnt soak for long periods of time, 5-10 minutes, that kind of thing.

Restoring Ad Glass Help xk140jr Yesterday at 06:17 PM
I have these 3 ad glasses for my Bennett 541. I would love to save and use them. Is there a process for removing what I assume is old gas varnish off the back side without destroying the graphics I have left?? Also need one original Dino anyone has a spare.
Thanks.
John

Hi Guys,

Just joined, I have grew up around automotive and gas memorabilia. My dad collected a bit of everything over the years, which I have inherited now. I will hopefully post some here as well as look for guidance on what some is / era.

Thanks!

Thanks! I hate red and white, that would be the normal "go to" colors for Mobil. Some of the older Mobil stuff used red/black, we probably overused the black but I think some artistic license is OK. We saw some other Simplex pumps painted this way, liked it, so we decided to go this route.

No you didn't. I think you balanced the colors perfectly, good contrast. The silver numbers pop on the black. I feel that in the hobby of pump restoration an artistic license is required. Remember, it is all about having fun. Your talent shows.

I hope you found the Hood Tire & Rubber Co writeup useful. Its nice to see a "youngin" with interest in this stuff, and not just another picker looking for values/etc...

Unfortunately, the vast wealth of knowledge from the members here isn't shared anymore. 20 years ago, different story. (Pre-picker show)

Im guessing this is 50s era? Wish i could help with your questions. I don't have any info on the sign of subject, to speak on it.

Thanx for the kind words Fred!
You and others on here are still welcome to come by! I plan on finally building on the property and plan to have it as my home base till I'm gone from this world.
I will still be buying and selling, just no more trying to maintain a "antique store" that is open to the general public. I will probably keep advertising with most of my websites for buying petro but also started ibuybrokenevs . com and starting a whole new adventure with that. So hopefully I'll still be around on here for a long time to come. Once a petrohead, always a petrohead!
Nope, she's too precious to ever give up and probably the only thing NFS in the pic! smile
