I have what I was told is an old sign from a tire stand that I got from a woman who said her father worked at a Gulf station for many years. Does anyone know anything about these? Is it even authentic? What does the “RO26” even mean?

...yes...it would have been bent at an angle on both sides, and bolted to an identical sign (bent the same way). back to back, to produce the stand...the attached photo (from a Google search) is of an older sign, assembled as described...

...I would advise against trying to bend your sign as shown, as the paint will flake badly at the bend point...it's collectable as is...dates to the early-mid 1960s...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
